What is it?
Diphenhydramine hydrochloride (Benadryl®) is an antihistamine with anticholinergic (drying) and sedative effects. This chemical is primarily in oral or injection form but may be contained in topical products. Topical uses include gels, creams, lotions, and sprays to treat insect bites, bee stings, sunburns, poison ivy, poison oak, or other minor skin irritations.
